The Biggest Game Releases of April 2026

April 2026 delivered one of the strongest release months of the year. Between major expansions, long awaited new IPs, and a few surprises, there was something for every type of player. Here is what came out and what is worth your time.

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred (April 28)

Blizzard's second expansion for Diablo IV launched at the end of the month. Lord of Hatred adds a new region, a new class, and a storyline centered on Mephisto's return. Early reception from the community has been positive, with players praising the new endgame systems and improved loot mechanics compared to the base game. If you bounced off Diablo IV at launch, this expansion is being treated as the "real" version of the game.

Pragmata (April 2026)

Capcom's sci fi action game has been in development since its reveal in 2020. Pragmata features a near future setting with evolving hacking minigames woven into exploration and combat. It is a rare original IP from Capcom, which has leaned heavily on Resident Evil and Monster Hunter in recent years. The game blends open environment puzzles with action sequences, and early previews suggest the hacking mechanics evolve throughout the campaign rather than repeating the same loop.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (April 16)

Nintendo brought back the Tomodachi Life series for Switch 2. The life simulation game lets you create Mii versions of friends and family, place them on an island, and watch their bizarre interactions unfold. It is intentionally weird, occasionally hilarious, and the kind of game that generates shareable moments. Not every month needs to be dominated by AAA action titles.

Mouse: P.I. for Hire (April 16)

A noir styled first person shooter where you play as a mouse detective. The art direction stands out immediately: black and white environments with selective color highlights, jazz soundtrack, and a tone that sits somewhere between Max Payne and a children's cartoon. The gunplay is surprisingly tight for an indie title, and the detective segments between shootouts add variety.

What Launched Earlier in 2026

March was equally loaded. Marathon (Bungie's extraction shooter) finally launched after years of anticipation. Crimson Desert delivered an open world action RPG with combat that drew comparisons to Dragon's Dogma. Slay the Spire 2 brought the beloved deck builder back with an entirely new card system. WWE 2K26 continued the franchise's recent quality streak.

Looking ahead, the rest of 2026 has Metro 2039 and an Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake confirmed. And of course, GTA VI arrives in November.
